Reiki is a natural system of energy healing. Reiki is very gentle, but its effects are often quite powerful. It helps induce the body’s relaxation response, leading to a calmer physical and emotional state. Many people settle into a deeply relaxed state (between waking and sleeping) which is very beneficial because it allows the adrenal glands and the body’s parasympathetic processes to rest and recover. People who are recovering from illness or injury also benefit from receiving Reiki because the ELF (Extremely Low Frequency) range emitted through the hands (similar to magnetic field therapy) stimulate tissue repair to promote healing, reduce pain or discomfort and impart a sense of well-being. Reiki is a wonderful tool to use as a complement to traditional and alternative medicine, and is practiced in many hospitals and therapeutic settings. It is currently offered by The Mayo Clinic and several renowned institutions such as Yale and Harvard University. Reiki helps restore balance and harmony to the mind, body and spirit. Used throughout the world by people of all creeds and belief systems, Reiki is something that can benefit everyone.

Reiki is Japanese in origin and the word is made up of Rei which means Universal and Ki which means energy, and is the same as Chi (Chinese) as in Tai Chi, and Prana as in Yoga.  Our bodies are composed not just of physical elements such as muscle and bones, it also has a subtle energy system that acts as transporters and pathways for this energy force. This energy is channeled through your practitioner and releases your blocked energy.

When this energy system becomes imbalanced our bodies can become ill. This can manifest as both physical or emotional symptoms. Reiki restores the balance of your energy system, helping your body to begin healing itself.

This energy flows through your chakras (energy centers) onto your meridians (energy pathways) to every cell in our body. Your energy field is the scientifically measurable field of electromagnetic energy that surrounds our bodies at all times. It extends many feet out around, above and below us.

What can Reiki help?

Everything! A huge proportion of illnesses are a result of energetic imbalances, so returning balance to this system can help with the symptoms and get to the root cause of many illnesses. As the treatment is often very relaxing it is particularly effective at treating stress related conditions such as digestive disorders, depression and anxiety, addictions, insomnia, migraines, eczema, rheumatoid arthritis and too many others to list. This is not to suggest it will reset a broken bone, but it will help dramatically in the recovery.

What can I expect during my treatment?

Treatments are carried out fully clothed with you lying down or seated according to your needs. The treatment may be non contact or hands-on to an area of the body. You may feel tingling, pins and needles, coolness, heat, rushing sensations, deep relaxation, warmth or nothing! As everyone’s energy field is unique, so too are your reactions to rebalancing your energy field. Many people do report feeling deeply relaxed and grounded, often falling asleep during treatment.

How often should I have a treatment?

Since everyone experiences Reiki in their own way and each of us is in need of different kinds of healing, there is no way to know how soon, or in what ways, one will begin to see the benefits of a Reiki treatment. Generally speaking, after the first treatment, clients will immediately feel a greater sense of relaxation and inner calm which can then be a first step towards significant healing. For more severe illnesses, imbalances, or feelings of chronic stress, a client may choose to receive several Reiki treatments close together for maximum benefit. On the other hand, for ongoing wellness and health maintenance, individuals may find that getting regular Reiki ‘tune-ups’ is an excellent way to maintain good health and prevent illness or negative effects of stress.

An effective seesion can last as little as 10 minutes or up to an hour.
